Latest additions : Best of the Bunch

So far this month, we've been busy with a slight category shake-up, starting to add sites of a particular subject to the same page; for instance, in the finance section, you'll find that most, if not all, of the insurance related sites are on the same page.

The site will still function in the same way, but be more organised. Apart from that, there have been some additions to the Home & Family section; this section will also contain the sites related to Society in general, as well as the more specific family related ones.

Firstly, the Energy Saving Trust has been added; this is an organisation dedicated to addressing the effects of climate change, through energy conservation and the use of alternative fuels.

Also added, is Glutafin, who specialise in gluten and wheat-free foods. Allergy Advice contains a wealth of information on dealing with allergies. Finally, on a home and garden theme, Evergreens are manufacturers of artificial grass, used for a number of applications. More structural changes are to come, slowing the addition of new sites, but we promise to keep them coming!

Recent additions include an expansion of the Recreation category, with sites dedicated to walking, countryside recreation, sports, and clubbing added. The directory structure has also been easier to navigate, with links to each page of a category available, instead of the next page in the category. More sites coming up soon!

The latest change to the site is a small category shake-up. The sites from the Internet category have now been added to the computers category, and a new category - Recreation added in it's place. Sites suitable for this category qualify for free addition to the directory, so if a site dedicated to your hobby, or your favourite site related to your hobby is not included, Add Your URL.

This weeks' additions thus far have been to the Internet section. Among the general directories, there has been DMOZ, one of the largest directories on the web, and Every Day UK, a smaller but still very well organised directory.

Also added is MSN UK, a multi-channelled portal offering from Microsoft, About.com, a directory edited by volunteers who are experts in their given subject. The emphasis here is more on the usefulness of the resources they link to, rather than just trying to link to as many sites as possible. Lastly, Gimpsy, which offers a different directory structure from the norm, focussing on an action that a user wants to take, rather than subject that they are looking for.

Today's additions to the Best of the Bunch include another jewellery store, in the Shopping section: Sheridan Designs. The site offers full details of their jewellery range and their stockists. In the Home & Family section, the Energy Saving Trust has been added. The site offers advice on how to be more energy efficient. Also in the home section, is Your Price Furniture, a furniture store offering furniture at great prices. Added to the Computers section, we have Amray, a directory of web sites.

Updates to the shopping section today include Gracia Amico, supplier of gold and silver jewellery, as well as Surprise Your Woman, who supply a wide range of gifts targeted at women, including jewellery, flowers, perfume and much more.

6th May 2004

Updates made to the recruitment section include Create Your C.V, which enables you to create your C.V. online and then have it emailed to you in MS Word format. Berkeley Scott specialise in leisure and hospitality jobs, and Tate, specialise in office support jobs. Banking Jobs UK offer banking and finance jobs, and SalesVacancies.com are a recruitment agency offering sales jobs.

30th April 2004

Today the Shopping section has been expanded, with Discount Cycles offering bikes and bike accessories, Interflora offering same day delivery for flowers, Mister Chill, who supply ice machines to the licensed industry, the Cotswold Company, who supply furniture, and the Car Phone Warehouse, who supply mobile phones and accessories.

To the best of our knowledge, all of the sites that are added to the shopping section offer secure online ordering. However, we accept no liability for credit card fraud arising from the use of any sites to which we link.

Additions to the Computers category today include Computing.net, an online technical support resource offering help and advice for a wide range of IT problems, Simply Computers, a supplier of PC's, hardware and software, all of which is available to purchase online, PC Magazine, the online presence of a popular computer related magazine offering reviews, help and technology related articles, and Computer Performance, an excellent Windows 2000 resource.

Added to the Automotive section, is Sniffy Dog, specialist suppliers of car parts, with a database of salvage companies.

A small addition to the Finance section today is Car Insurance Quoter, an online facility offering the chance to get a quote from multiple insurance suppliers.

22nd April 2004

New sites added today include Kent Tourism, the home of the Kent Tourism Board, in the travel section, Halifax Car Insurance in the finance section, and Amray in the Computers section.

A small addition to the travel category today; just one site; Overseas Travel and Tourism, who offer specialist bridge and horse racing holidays, as well as holidays in luxury hotels throughout Europe and the Middle East.

15th April 2004

Additions to the Computers category included Ask Jeeves, Alltheweb.com, a clean, fast alternative to Google, using the same database as Lycos, and The Computers Place, a comprehensive IT directory.

14th April 2004

Additions to the Automotive section include the addition of more car manufacturers site, including Nissan, Chrysler, and Toyota, as well as Car Stuff, a US based car enthusiasts portal.

In the Computing section, we've most recently added PC Addons - a supplier of computer peripherals and consumables, aimed at the home user. They have a wide product range, and all of their products are available to purchase online. From what we have seen on our travels around the web, they are offering very good prices on most of their products.

In Shopping, you'll find a link to Amazon UK; probably the longest established E-commerce site on the web. We've used their service many times, and have never had a bad experience. They originally specialised in books, and still carry a huge range, but have expanded in to software and music as well.

In the Finance section, CCC Financial is the latest addition. CCC Financial offer both secured and unsecured loans, as well as mortgages. The site features a mortgage calculator and the chance to apply for any of their products online.

Meanwhile, in the Automotive section, our latest addition is confused.com. This site offers a car insurance comparison service, which uses most of the major insurance companies. We have found incredibly useful for getting the cheapest possible quote on what is probably the most grudgingly paid bill of them all - car insurance. The service is not advisable, however, for owners of heavily modified cars, as most of their insurers will not insure these. If you want insurance for modified, performance, or imported cars, Adrian Flux, are well worth a look.

Our latest addition to the Home and Family section is Familyrapp, a parental advice site dealing with all aspects of being a parent; a very useful resource.

In Travel, we see the addition of Islas.com; a tourist guide to the island of Tenerife. The site features lots of information on visiting and staying in Tenerife, including resort guides and weather guides.

The Computers section is a guide to the various search engines, directories and 'vortals' (portals relating to a specific subject / industry) that we have found on our travels around the web. Sometimes, a vortal can be better for finding information on a specific subject, meaning that they can be useful to know. The latest addition to this section is Find.co.uk, a directory specifically related to financial sites. Here, you'll find sites dealing with everything from commercial mortgages to online bank accounts.

The latest addition to Property is U-Switch, a comparison service for gas, electricity, phone and digital television. This easy-to use site uses criteria that you enter regarding your usage of the above utilities to find you the cheapest deals. Once you have completed the simple forms, you will be shown an estimated annual saving, and then be given the chance to sign up with the supplier. A great service for helping you to save money!
