ecountant is an online accountancy service targeted at sole traders and small businesses; it aims to reduce the cost of accountancy by "almost completely automating the creation of accounts".

The basic jist of the offering is that accounting data is input directly in to the secure area of the site by someone at your company - the data is then processed as required, and at the end of the year, ecountant produces the business income section of your tax return.

As well as detailing full information about their offerings, the ecountant site details a vast wealth of information to help explain accounting, which can be a bit of a mine field to the inexperienced. The design is very modern, and incredibly user-friendly.

The people running the company have lots of experience in the field, which is reassuring. As the concept of completing your business accounts online is a new one, the idea may prove daunting to some companies. However, it certainly sounds like it would be worth a try, and would be a good way of keeping down costs, expecially for small companies.
